Customer Success and Customer Support are often confused, but they serve fundamentally different roles. Customer Support is reactive \u2014 it exists to help customers when something goes wrong, answering questions, resolving tickets, and fixing bugs. Its success is measured by resolution time, ticket volume, and satisfaction scores like CSAT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Customer Success, by contrast, is proactive. Its goal is to help customers achieve their desired outcomes with a product, ensuring they realize ongoing value \u2014 which in turn drives renewals, expansions, and reduced churn. Customer Success Managers (CSMs) often reach out before a problem arises, guiding onboarding, sharing best practices, and monitoring usage patterns or Customer Health Scores to flag at-risk accounts early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Support is typically request-driven: a customer submits a ticket, and the team responds. Success is relationship-driven: a CSM might schedule quarterly business reviews, recommend new features aligned to a customer\u2019s goals, or advocate internally for a customer\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both functions are essential and often collaborate closely \u2014 a spike in support tickets can be an early health-score signal for the success team.
