While working on search engines, we must have come across the term \u201cGoogle algorithms\u201d. So what exactly does google\u2019s algorithm means?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google Algorithm is a compound system used to recover data from the search engines<\/a> and deliver similar and best possible results on the query. The search engines such as Google, Youtube, Microsoft bing uses a combination of algorithms and signals to deliver the best-ranked pages to its user according to the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier google was having a limited amount of algorithms but nowadays, the count has increased and there are several changes taking place every year in \u201cGoogle algorithms\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it\u2019s not necessary that every update makes a huge difference, there are also such updates that are not even noticed. And the one which makes a huge difference can affect SERPs (Search Engine Ranking Pages) easily. If your website is ranking on the first page, it can also send back to the 5th page. Therefore it\u2019s necessary to keep a regular update on \u201cgoogle Algorithms\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google updates with several changes in its algorithms, some are noticed and they affect the Search engines and change the way of doing regular SEO<\/a>. So let\u2019s count down some of the critical algorithms made by google.<\/gwmw><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Featured Snippet De-duplication<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Removing the duplicate URLs from the SERPs with featured snippets is called de-duplication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    On 22nd January 2020 google announced that it will be cutting or deducting the duplication of featured snippet URLs on the search engine results pages (SERPs). Featured snippets used to display as position zero in a box at the top of the SERPs, but that URL could be displayed further along with the page too. With this new update, featured snippets are now no longer position zero because that result is not duplicated, it will just be position 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Google\u2019s goal is to bring its users the most accurate results for their inquiries. Part of this process involves pruning the hits on the search engine results pages (SERPs) so that users don\u2019t have to sift through duplicates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The featured snippet de-duplication update causes the URL found on the featured snippet to be moved to the second page of Google results, usually ranking eleven overall. However, do keep in mind that this is not necessarily guaranteed, but it does seem to be the case for a large number of websites. This example serves to curve duplicate results while increasing the accuracy of individual search results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. May 2020 core update<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Now the name itself makes us understand that it is a core update or a major update done by google. This core update is a large change in google algorithms and it impacts a lot of sites. The things which come under May 2020 core updates are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. To provide relevant and accurate search results for the queries of the users.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. While the page authority is still important, many smaller websites that would not be seen as giant authorities in their verticals saw improvements and in some cases, were able to outrank very authoritative sites.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Many sites that saw declines had unnatural links or links that could be considered \u201cgrey hat\u201d, but essentially self-made for SEO purposes. We believe that Google may be either putting less emphasis on links now that they can better understand the content or, they may be better able to understand which links are truly votes from other people who are recommending your content.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        January 2020 core update is also known as \u201cYour Money or Your Life\u201d (YMYL) websites. Google targets these types of sites with many of their recent updates.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Overall, this algorithm update evaluated the expertise, authority, and trust factors (EAT) that Google values so highly. After updates, Google often says that \u201closing\u201d sites cannot do anything to recover quickly. Overall, content creators should focus on the quality rater guidelines mentioned above.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
